Virden Indoor Rodeo

Virden is widely known for it "Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze". This event, held in the late August, attracts cowboys and visitors from a large surrounding area. The whole community becomes involved hosting downtown promotional events, a demolition derby, the Manitoba Team Roping Finals, pet shows, a fiddling contest, a parade, a horseshoe tournament, golf tournament, the rodeo dance and of course, an M.R.C.A.( Mantioba Rodeo Cowboys Association) and C.C.A.(Canadian Cowboys Association) approved rodeo and High School rodeo. In 2000,2001, and 2002, the Virden rodeo was declared top rodeo by the M.R.C.A. cowboys and cowgirls. In 2003, the M.R.C.A. finals were held in Virden rather than the regular rodeo. Local cowgirl, Kimberly Hodgins was crowned as the 2006 Rodeo Queen. Aleaha Moore, originally from Virden was crowned Miss Rodeo Canada for 2006.

Virden Agricultural Fair

The Virden Fair, hosted by the Virden Agricultural Society, is another annual successful event held in Virden at the beginning of July. The Agricultural Society goes through a great deal of planning and work to deliver one the largest rural agricultural fairs in Manitoba. This fair consists of horse shows, both heavy and light, cattle shows, team penning, chariot and chuckwagon races, poultry shows, goat shows, children's games and entertainment, the "Bone Rattle" pedal tractor pull and numerous other events to make it an entertaining and eventful weekend for all. in 2004, the West Coast Lumber Jack Show was at the fair. The Wallace District Fire Board has started to host an annual Mud Bog contest for people all over the province to come out and put their truck to the test of the man mad mud bog.  The exact dates of the fair are available on the community events calendar on this website.

Virden Regional Airshow

Virden has hosted two airshows in the past.  The 2006 airshow include performances by the Canadian Armed Forces "Snowbirds" precision flying team as well as several aerobatic performers. While no firm schedule has been established, options are being discussed to make this a bi-annual event.
