Who is Responsible:
- Town of Virden
- Manages wildlife issues on town-owned property.
- Provides public education on wildlife safety.
- Keeps public spaces (garbage, parks, compost areas) clean and managed to reduce attractants.
- Refers serious wildlife issues to provincial authorities.
- Province of Manitoba (Conservation and Climate)
- Has legal authority over wildlife management.
- Handles dangerous wildlife situations.
- Issues permits and manages relocation or removal of wildlife when needed.
- Residents
- Do not feed or attract wildlife.
- Secure garbage, compost, and other food sources.
- Maintain properties to reduce wildlife access (fencing, cleanup, etc.).
- Keep pets under control.
- Report dangerous wildlife situations.
Wildlife Encounters:
- Stay calm and keep your distance.
- Do not approach, touch, or try to move wildlife.
- Keep pets leashed and close.
- Report aggressive or unsafe wildlife immediately.
Types of Situations:
- Non-emergency (common sightings, minor issues):
- Managed through education and prevention advice.
- May be referred to provincial resources.
- Emergency (dangerous or aggressive wildlife):
- Call Manitoba Conservation or 911 if there is immediate danger.
