The Virden Community Arts Council was formed in 1981 and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1982. The Council became a registered charity in 1989.
In 2000 the CPR Historic Centre opened its doors to VCAC and other non-profit organizations, a fundraising campaign entitled “Save the CP Station” was instrumental in the repair and ongoing community use of this majestic structure.
In 2015, VCAC changed its name to “Arts Mosaic.”
The mandate of Arts Mosaic is to be a catalyst for the promotion, education & awareness of creative endeavors in our community. Arts Mosaic manages an art gallery and the Mosaic Market – a gift shop with items from local artists, provides art education and cultural events, supports the Costume Closet, and offers scholarships and bursaries to local schools and community fairs.
While you are visiting the CPR Historic Centre why not request a tour of the caboose that stands guard over the building? Before the caboose was brought to its final destination, it was lovingly restored to reflect how it would look to those who saw our country from within its walls. How many of us remember waiting for the end of a train so we could wave at the men or women in the caboose?
